About Chronicle Labs

Chronicle develops decentralized oracle infrastructure that delivers verifiable real-time data to DeFi and tokenized asset applications. Our systems secure more than $13 billion in collateral across major blockchain ecosystems and support products used by builders and institutional partners.

Backed by a $12M seed round from leading investors and angels, Chronicle is expanding its infrastructure, security, and operational capabilities to support the next generation of institutional customers, including asset managers, custodians, banks, and tokenization platforms.

In addition to our continued partnership with Sky (formerly MakerDAO), we are building the world’s first fully verifiable, cost-efficient, scalable, and decentralised oracle infrastructure for both DeFi and Real World Assets (RWA).

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to operate and improve Chronicle’s cloud infrastructure and production systems. We value sound judgment, practical ownership, and experience with complex production environments more than a fixed number of years.

You will work hands-on with AWS, Kubernetes, automation, observability, incident response, and platform reliability. You will collaborate with DevOps, on-chain, off-chain, and full-stack engineers to strengthen deployments, service resilience, follow-the-sun coverage, and knowledge sharing across DeFi and tokenized asset infrastructure.

This is an individual contributor role with meaningful autonomy and no formal people-management responsibility. We need someone who can bridge blockchain and conventional infrastructure, bring disciplined practices from security-sensitive environments, and influence the platform through technical credibility and consistent delivery.

Candidates must be based in the Central European time zone and work primarily within CET/CEST business hours, corresponding to UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 in summer.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 12 months, you will:

  • Develop a strong understanding of Chronicle’s infrastructure and operational dependencies.

  • Improve platform reliability, observability, alert quality, and incident response.

  • Reduce manual work and recurring incidents through automation and stronger operational practices.

  • Improve recovery procedures, cross-time-zone handovers, and distribution of critical knowledge.

  • Become a trusted infrastructure partner for Chronicle’s engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Infrastructure & Delivery

  • Operate and improve Chronicle’s AWS and EKS infrastructure.

  • Manage Kubernetes workloads, networking, IAM, storage, and compute through Terraform, Helm, and GitOps.

  • Improve CI/CD safety, traceability, rollback practices, and operational automation.

  • Support platform upgrades, migrations, capacity planning, and architecture changes.

Reliability & On-Call

  • Maintain observability across metrics, logs, traces, and alerts.

  • Improve service health checks, alert quality, reliability targets, and recovery procedures.

  • The role includes scheduled production on-call coverage, supported by documented handovers, escalation paths, and engineers in other time zones.

  • Reduce recurring incidents and technical or human single points of failure.

Blockchain & Distributed Systems

  • Operate Chronicle’s oracle infrastructure, RPC nodes, relayers, signing services, and data workloads.

  • Support messaging systems such as Kafka, NATS, or comparable platforms.

  • Investigate failures spanning cloud services, applications, external dependencies, and blockchain networks.

Security & Operational Controls

  • Apply disciplined access control, secrets management, change management, and infrastructure security practices.

  • Maintain traceable records for production changes, privileged access, and recovery procedures.

  • Support customer, security, and audit-related technical reviews.

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

  • Maintain accurate architecture documents, runbooks, handovers, and operational procedures.

  • Distribute critical knowledge through documentation, pairing, walkthroughs, and reviews across time zones.

  • Keep documentation current when systems or processes change.

Engineering Collaboration

  • Work closely with DevOps, on-chain, off-chain, and full-stack engineers.

  • Own infrastructure work from investigation through deployment and follow-up.

  • Review changes for reliability, security, maintainability, performance, and cost.

  • Help shape platform priorities around production risks and recurring engineering needs.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, SRE, or cloud infrastructure.

  • Hands-on production experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Linux, networking, and IAM.

  • Practical knowledge of Terraform, Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, and CI/CD.

  • Experience operating observability systems and participating in on-call, incident response, and recovery work.

  • Ability to automate operational tasks using Go, Python, Bash, or a comparable language.

  • Sound understanding of distributed systems, security, and event-driven architectures.

  • Clear written communication and disciplined documentation and handover practices.

  • Ability to work autonomously across a globally distributed engineering team.

You Will Stand Out If

  • You have worked on financial, payments, custody, digital asset, or other security-sensitive platforms.

  • You have supported audit, compliance, or customer security review processes.

  • You have improved distributed on-call operations and cross-time-zone handovers.

  • You can balance startup speed with disciplined production practices.

  • You have experience with blockchain nodes, relayers, or decentralized infrastructure.

What We Offer

  • A clear path to broader technical ownership

  • Direct influence over production architecture and operational practices

  • Exposure to both decentralized and institutional financial infrastructure

  • An experienced, globally distributed engineering team

  • Competitive compensation package

  • Equity participation

  • Flexible payment options (USD, EUR, USDC)

  • 6 weeks vacation

  • Remote-first environment

  • Flexible working schedule

  • Annual company offsites

As Chronicle operates security-sensitive infrastructure, final-stage candidates complete identity and location verification as part of our standard hiring process.
