External Communications Director

We are looking for an External Communications Director to be the voice of DEVxDAO. We are looking for someone to help lead our efforts to develop communications strategies that are open and inviting, community-focused, and educational.

This exceptional candidate will lead and own the marketing and communications for this forward-thinking community driven organization. We are a place where protocols, projects, and engineers work together to promote the frontiers of emerging technology. Based in Switzerland, the DAO provides grants to developers, researchers, and scientists all over the world and supports open source, transparent scientific research into emerging technology.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Drafting and reviewing written deliverables such as press releases, newsletters, and brochures in concert with internal experts and external marketing / PR teams


• Ensuring all organizational materials and outbound communications have consistent and positive messaging and branding


• Managing the organization’s official website and social media presence in concert with external marketing / PR resources


• Conducting quality control on all communications


• Coordinate with onboarding team, marketing team, and existing social media team to ensure consistent communications


• Drafting of community guidelines for voting and approval by the Voting Associates


• Developing relationships and working with media outlets, other companies, Voting Associates, other DAOs, Marketing Contractors, and external groups.


• Responding to crises or challenging situations quickly and professionally


• Attending speaking engagements and hosting special events


• Engage with the DAO to develop key messaging, themes/topics, style/tone, target audiences, and appropriate communications channels.


• Research DAO and market trends and identify original and compelling themes/storylines to incorporate into communications.


• Design and develop standards for communications success. Develop and monitor metrics to measure the reach and impact of communications and to identify areas of success and opportunity.


• Work to design and implement a Voting Associate onboarding program that explains and guides a new potential Voting Associate through the process of learning about and joining the DAO.


• Transmit established guidelines to grant applicants, and ensure submitted grants follow them.


• Develop Crisis Response Plans / Scenario Planning


• Serve as crisis point of contact


• Manage organization news and perspective through key channels


• Develop written press materials – releases, talking points, story pitches – and manage approval process with internal stakeholders, clients, and partners.


• Capture successes and metrics from across the organization and translate them into compelling stories and case studies.

• You can break down complex ideas and processes into easy-to-understand concepts that can be understood by both technical and non-technical audiences.


• You are highly organized and detail-oriented.


• You are able to work autonomously and with some level of ambiguity. You feel at home in a dynamic startup environment.


• You are passionate about web3, DAOs, blockchain, and decentralized governance technologies, best practices, and beliefs.


• 5+ years of experience in public relations, marketing, or communications-related field.


• Experience in the web3, blockchain, or DAO space is important.


• Exceptional storytelling ability. Written, oral, and interpersonal skills to express your message clearly, concisely, and compellingly.


• Experience in establishing, tracking, and improving marketing messaging and KPIs

This unique opportunity is a 12-month contract with the possibility of extension. Monthly compensation is €10,000 EUR / month.
