The Role

As Senior Accountant at Travala.com, you will take full ownership of accounting operations and monthly reporting for a rapidly growing blockchain-based online travel agency offering hotels, flights, activities and concierge services. You’ll join a small and agile finance team and play a central role in establishing processes, reporting frameworks, and controls from the ground up. The ideal candidate will have a passion for travel and/or blockchain and cryptocurrency, and will be looking for an opportunity to make a difference.

This is a high-impact, high-visibility role reporting directly to the Financial Controller, with support from external contractors. We are a remote-first company, and the entire finance team (VP of Finance, Financial Controller, and Crypto Accounting Manager) is based in Western Canada.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting

  • Prepare and update monthly financial reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders

  • Coordinate, prepare, and maintain audit-ready work papers and supporting documentation

  • Work with the Financial Controller to perform ad-hoc analysis, tasks, and projects

  • Lead or contribute to accounting and finance projects, including process improvements, systems upgrades, and controls implementation

Team and Stakeholder Management

  • Document, maintain, and enforce accounting policies and procedures

  • Liaise with external auditors, accountants, and regulatory advisors

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to collect inputs for financial reporting

  • Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary entities

Accounting Operations and Controls

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process across all entities

  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations (receivables, payables, prepaids, etc.)

  • Maintain a clean, auditable documentation trail for all journal entries

  • Implement and monitor internal controls to ensure compliance and reduce risk

  • Take on day-to-day transactional tasks when required, particularly during month-end

Qualifications

We are looking for a self-motivated, scrappy accountant who can work independently with minimal guidance in a fast-paced start-up environment. You will use your knowledge and experience to develop and professionalize our accounting and reporting functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline

  • CPA designation (or international equivalent), with a public audit training background and a minimum 2 years experience in a senior accounting or financial reporting role

  • A “roll up the sleeves” attitude with a strong bias towards thoughtful action and impact

  • High attention to detail, with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, sometimes with incomplete/ambiguous data

  • Adaptable and confident working in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and anticipate needs without requiring constant oversight

  • Highly organized with a track record of managing competing priorities and following through on tasks to completion

  • Experience managing complex multi-entity, multi-currency accounting in accordance with IFRS

  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications

Bonus if you also have:

  • Experience in the travel, online marketplaces, or hospitality industry

  • Experience with remote-first companies and async communication

  • Exposure to SFRS (Singapore Financial Reporting Standard for Small Entities), consolidation, and foreign - currency revaluation

  • Prior use of SoftLedger or other crypto/blockchain accounting or Web3 tools
