Senior Accountant
The Role
As Senior Accountant at Travala.com, you will take full ownership of accounting operations and monthly reporting for a rapidly growing blockchain-based online travel agency offering hotels, flights, activities and concierge services. You’ll join a small and agile finance team and play a central role in establishing processes, reporting frameworks, and controls from the ground up. The ideal candidate will have a passion for travel and/or blockchain and cryptocurrency, and will be looking for an opportunity to make a difference.
This is a high-impact, high-visibility role reporting directly to the Financial Controller, with support from external contractors. We are a remote-first company, and the entire finance team (VP of Finance, Financial Controller, and Crypto Accounting Manager) is based in Western Canada.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting
- Prepare and update monthly financial reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders
- Coordinate, prepare, and maintain audit-ready work papers and supporting documentation
- Work with the Financial Controller to perform ad-hoc analysis, tasks, and projects
- Lead or contribute to accounting and finance projects, including process improvements, systems upgrades, and controls implementation
Team and Stakeholder Management
- Document, maintain, and enforce accounting policies and procedures
- Liaise with external auditors, accountants, and regulatory advisors
- Collaborate cross-functionally to collect inputs for financial reporting
- Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary entities
Accounting Operations and Controls
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process across all entities
- Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations (receivables, payables, prepaids, etc.)
- Maintain a clean, auditable documentation trail for all journal entries
- Implement and monitor internal controls to ensure compliance and reduce risk
- Take on day-to-day transactional tasks when required, particularly during month-end
Qualifications
We are looking for a self-motivated, scrappy accountant who can work independently with minimal guidance in a fast-paced start-up environment. You will use your knowledge and experience to develop and professionalize our accounting and reporting functions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline
- CPA designation (or international equivalent), with a public audit training background and a minimum 2 years experience in a senior accounting or financial reporting role
- A “roll up the sleeves” attitude with a strong bias towards thoughtful action and impact
- High attention to detail, with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, sometimes with incomplete/ambiguous data
- Adaptable and confident working in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and anticipate needs without requiring constant oversight
- Highly organized with a track record of managing competing priorities and following through on tasks to completion
- Experience managing complex multi-entity, multi-currency accounting in accordance with IFRS
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
Bonus if you also have:
- Experience in the travel, online marketplaces, or hospitality industry
- Experience with remote-first companies and async communication
- Exposure to SFRS (Singapore Financial Reporting Standard for Small Entities), consolidation, and foreign - currency revaluation
- Prior use of SoftLedger or other crypto/blockchain accounting or Web3 tools
