Job description
ABOUT THE ROLE
Skilled trade labor is one of the hardest things to secure on a data center build. This Sourcing Manager owns how Hut 8 finds, qualifies, and contracts the subcontractors that do the work in the field, such as mechanical, electrical, and civil subcontractors, so trade providers show up per the schedule needs, deliver the contracted scope at optimal cost.
The Sourcing Manager works cross-functionally with Construction, Engineering, Finance/AP, Legal, and Operations to lock in subtrade capacity early and minimize commercial and execution risk across capital projects.
Some of the responsibilities you can expect include the following:
Build a subtrade sourcing plan for each site, including package strategy, target bidders, and a buyout schedule tied to the construction schedule
Map and prequalify subtrade partners in each market on capacity , safety record (EMR, TRIR, OSHA history), bonding, financial health, manpower, and project history
Write scope sheets, run competitive bids, and level bids to close scope gaps before award
Negotiate subcontracts, labor and unit rates, escalation, and manpower commitments, and put program agreements in place with proven partners
Track trade capacity and competing projects, identifying early risk indicators and escalating before they affect the schedule
Review change orders, T&M tickets, and claims for merit and price, and keep payments aligned with contractual milestones
Score subtrade partners after each project and recommend improvements that reduce risk and improve cash flow timing
ABOUT YOU
Bachelor's degree in construction management, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered)
5+ years of experience in subcontract buyout, procurement, or contracts management on large capital projects
Demonstrated experience leveling trade bids and negotiating subcontracts across multiple trade scopes
Able to read drawings and specifications well enough to write a scope sheet and catch a scope gap
Working knowledge of trade labor markets, including union and open shop dynamics
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving infrastructure or industrial environment
Preferred: Data center or mission critical project experience; buyout experience on the general contractor side; experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Coupa, Odoo)
