About Alvarez & Marsal
Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) is a global consulting firm with entrepreneurial, action- and results-oriented professionals. We take a hands-on approach to solving our clients' problems and helping them reach their potential. A&M is different by design: we give people ownership and impact from day one, fuel development through real opportunity, and provide direct access to leaders who invest in our growth. Our culture celebrates independent thinkers and doers who positively impact clients and shape our industry. Guided by A&M's core values of Integrity, Quality, Objectivity, Fun, Personal Reward, and Inclusive Diversity, our collaborative, globally minded environment is why our people love working at A&M.
The Team
As a Crypto Senior Associate, you will have the opportunity to work alongside professionals recognized as authorities across the digital asset ecosystem, and with the guidance of experienced practitioners, you will help clients manage risk, underwrite opportunities, and create value across one of the fastest-moving sectors in the market.
How You Will Contribute
You will work closely with companies, investors, and counterparties across the digital asset ecosystem, spanning risk, underwriting, business intelligence, revenue enhancement, strategy, and operational and financial diligence, with select engagements involving the restructuring of crypto-native businesses.
Skills
We advise across the full lifecycle of digital asset engagements, from diligence and underwriting, to risk assessment, to strategy and performance improvement, providing you with a wide range of experiences and projects. Leveraging your resourcefulness, independent judgment, and ability to structure ambiguous problems, you will help develop solutions to critical client questions and improve outcomes. You will apply your analytical skills and understanding of finance, markets, and the crypto ecosystem while taking ownership of significant portions of project delivery. Your involvement with these projects will typically include:
- Leading operational and financial due diligence analyses on digital asset businesses, counterparties, and transactions.
- Building and reviewing financial models and analyses to support underwriting, risk assessment, and investment or credit decisions, with limited oversight.
- Developing business intelligence and market analysis across protocols, tokens, exchanges, and other ecosystem participants, including structuring analyses where the path to an answer is not immediately clear.
- Identifying and structuring revenue enhancement and performance improvement opportunities for clients.
- Supporting and owning components of strategy engagements, from market entry and product assessment to operating model design.
- Contributing to restructuring and turnaround work for distressed crypto-native businesses, where such engagements arise.
- Supporting business development by contributing to and helping develop pitch and proposal materials.
- Owning an entire workstream or significant project component, driving it from initial problem definition through analysis and client-ready output, while coaching and mentoring junior resources.
Working as a partner to our clients, you will develop an in-depth understanding of the client’s processes, financial position, and key operational performance drivers to surface and address key issues. You will be expected to translate ambiguous or unstructured client questions into a clear analytical approach, develop work that is substantially client-ready with light review, and present analyses and insights to a variety of audiences. You will build consultative relationships and may independently lead calls or meetings with junior client teams, as appropriate.
At A&M you will have the opportunity to work on complex and high-profile engagements in the digital asset industry. You will work alongside senior management and experienced A&M professionals from a variety of backgrounds who bring significant industry depth and knowledge. You will be relied on to prioritize and advance multiple workstreams with a high degree of autonomy, proactively communicate with internal and external stakeholders, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced, deeply collaborative environment.
Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of work experience in investment or commercial banking, consulting, or a corporate role with a financial or analytical focus.
- BA/BS degree and/or MBA/MS in Accounting, Finance, or other related analytical fields.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills a must.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or demonstrated progress toward such certifications, preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in digital assets and the broader crypto ecosystem, through either prior professional experience or personal involvement in the space (for example, active participation as a hobbyist).
- Familiarity with restructuring or Chapter 11 concepts is a plus, given select distressed crypto-native engagements.
- Strong financial modeling skills, including the ability to independently build 3-statement financial models with limited oversight; experience with 13-week cash flow forecasts is a plus.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with all levels of client personnel and independently manage selected interactions with junior client teams.
- Commitment to living A&M’s cultural values: integrity, leadership, objectivity, inclusive diversity, and fun.
- Team player who can excel in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, challenging work environment.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
