We are seeking

Bitdeer (NASDAQ: BTDR) is looking for an experienced transactional attorney to join our U.S. Legal team in San Jose, California as Senior Legal Counsel, Power & Land. Bitdeer acquires, energizes and builds data center and power infrastructure across multiple U.S. states and in Alberta, Canada. This role owns the legal work that moves a site from a land position to an energized facility: acquisitions, leases and easements; water rights and supply; utility, interconnection and energy management arrangements; long-lead electrical equipment; and the entitlements and regulatory approvals each site depends on.

This is a dedicated power and land role in our U.S. legal function, so you will own the portfolio rather than support it. You will work directly with site selection, development, construction, energy and procurement leaders, bring in and direct specialist and local counsel where state and local law requires it, and build the form agreements, diligence standards and obligation tracking that this work depends upon.

What you will be responsible for

Lead land and site transactions end to end — purchase and sale agreements, ground and build-to-suit leases, options, easements and rights-of-way, title and survey review, title insurance, restrictive covenants, water rights and supply agreements, and post-closing obligations.
Negotiate the utility and power arrangements that make a site viable: interconnection and transmission agreements, discretionary and distribution service agreements, substation and shared facilities agreements, energy management and retail supply arrangements, and the financial security, milestone and energization obligations inside them.
Advise on interconnection strategy and queue position with transmission and distribution service providers, electric cooperatives and system operators — including ERCOT, PJM and TVA territories and the Alberta market — and on large-load thresholds, study processes and cost allocation.
Support site selection and diligence: zoning and land use, entitlements and permitting, environmental review, utility and water availability, and the tax incentive, abatement and special district structures that determine whether a site clears.
Lead the land use and entitlement workstream with local counsel — rezoning and text amendments, moratoria, variances, and public hearings — and prepare the business for the public and political dimension of those proceedings.
Paper and negotiate procurement of long-lead electrical infrastructure such as transformers, switchgear and substation equipment, including origin representations, substitution and walk-away rights, and compliance with bulk-power-system and trade-control requirements.
Partner with the construction team on the interface between site, power and EPC paper, so interconnection milestones, energization dates and construction schedules are consistent across documents rather than negotiated separately.
Serve as a legal point of contact for utilities, cooperatives, landowners, developers, and state and local authorities, and select and manage specialist and local counsel in each market on scope, quality and spend.
Build the form library and standards for this work — letters of intent, options, easements, interconnection and diligence checklists — and maintain correct entity, signature and authority discipline across a multi-entity structure.
Track and surface continuing obligations: purchase options, approval and consent windows, notice and cure deadlines, financial security postings, renewal dates and energization covenants.
Support management on other legal matters as assigned.

How you will stand out

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing. California admission is preferred; attorneys admitted in another U.S. jurisdiction should be eligible to register as Registered In-House Counsel in California.

  • 7+ years of transactional experience at a leading law firm and/or in-house, with a substantial share in real estate development, energy and power, or infrastructure project work.

  • A record of leading complex transactions end to end as the responsible attorney against sophisticated counterparties — structuring, drafting, negotiating and closing, not supporting someone else who does.

  • Direct experience with utility and interconnection arrangements, whether for data centers, generation, renewables, industrial load or midstream — including interconnection and service agreements, easements and rights-of-way, and negotiations with utilities and cooperatives.

  • Practical command of the real estate toolkit: purchase and sale, ground and build-to-suit leasing, title and survey, easements, zoning and land use, and the diligence that sits under each.

  • Experience managing specialist and local counsel across multiple states, and the judgment to decide what stays in-house and what goes out.

  • Clear writing and the ability to turn a dense issue into a decision and a next step for an executive or a counterparty.

  • High self-motivation and a collaborative style suited to a fast-growing, global company.

  • Ability to work with colleagues across Asia and North America, including some meetings outside U.S. business hours, and to travel to project sites, utility and regulatory meetings, and hearings as needed.

  • ERCOT experience specifically — large-load interconnection, Texas transmission and distribution service providers, and electric cooperatives — or comparable depth in PJM, TVA or the Alberta market.

  • In-house experience at a data center developer, hyperscaler, independent power producer, utility, or renewable energy developer.

  • Experience with construction and EPC contracting, or with long-lead electrical equipment procurement.

  • Familiarity with public-company disclosure obligations as they touch project timing and energization.

  • Experience with Canadian, and specifically Alberta, land and power matters.

What you will experience working with us

A culture that values authenticity and diverse perspectives.
An inclusive, respectful environment with open workspaces and an energetic, start-up spirit.
A fast-growing company with opportunities to network with industry pioneers and enthusiasts.
The ability to contribute directly and make an impact on the future of the digital asset and AI computing industry.
Involvement in new projects and in developing processes/systems.
Personal accountability, autonomy, rapid growth, and learning opportunities.
Attractive benefits and development such as training and mentoring.
