About Web3 Research Jobs

This page lists Web3 research jobs: crypto research analysts, protocol and economic researchers, quantitative and data researchers, cryptography and zero-knowledge research, and research leads at funds, exchanges, protocols and research firms.

The category covers two distinct kinds of work. Market and protocol research produces written analysis for investors, users or a trading desk, and asks for on-chain data skills plus clear writing; formal research on cryptography, consensus or mechanism design sits closer to academia and often asks for publications or a graduate degree. Check whether a listing wants a weekly report or a paper, and see /jobs/cryptography for the formal end.

What does a crypto research analyst do?

Studies protocols, tokens and markets and turns that into something other people can act on: reports, dashboards, memos for an investment team, or public writing that builds a firm's reputation. The day-to-day mixes reading documentation and governance forums with pulling on-chain data through tools such as Dune. Clear writing is usually the deciding factor in hiring.

What skills do Web3 research jobs ask for?

SQL and Python for on-chain data, familiarity with block explorers and analytics tools, and the ability to explain a mechanism in plain English. An economics or finance background helps for tokenomics and market work; cryptography roles want math, and often published work in zero-knowledge proofs or consensus. Writing samples are requested more often here than in most job categories.

How do I build a portfolio for crypto research roles?

Publish. A public dashboard, a substantive post on a protocol's governance forum, or a few pieces explaining how something works will be read by the people hiring, because research output is the product. Pick one ecosystem and go deep rather than covering everything, and keep a link to your best two pieces at the top of your application.
